Overnight Backpacking Checklist
We are planning to summit Mt. Madison and Mt. Adams then descend to the Osgood Tentsite for the night before returning to the stake campsite the next day. The White Mountains are well known for sudden changes in weather conditions. Hiker safety is our highest priority and we will consider remaining daylight, weather, hiker health, etc before summiting. We will switch to an alternate hiking plan if necessary. Please note: to keep our hiking team safe and to maintain team unity we will be hiking together as a group.

Hiker’s tips:
- Thirsty hikers are miserable hikers. Bring plenty of water and make it accessible in multiple water bottles.
- Limit your weight to just what you will need for 24 hours on the trail. All other gear for the week should remain in basecamp.
- Athletic/moisture wicking layers are preferred. If possible, avoid cotton clothing as it does not retain heat when hiking in damp conditions. Non-cotton fabrics such as wool, nylon, polyester, silk all work fine.
- Any items that do not fit in a pack, such as a bulky sleeping bag should be securely tied or strapped to your pack. Do not plan on carrying any gear along the trail by hand.
- Meals will be provided. For those starting their hike on Monday, you will need to bring a sack lunch like all other campers. We will eat it right before or a little into our hike.
- If you have any questions, please contact Brother Jason Walther or Mike Diehl.
